En date du 02 février 2020, deux d’équipes composées des gardes et Hugo des postes de patouilles de Gatovu en localisation de deux familles de gorilles, ont observé, chacune une nouvelle naissance au sein de la famille suivie : famille KABIRIZI et BAGENI. Ces évènements se sont produits probablement la nuit du 01 Février 2020 et constatés le matin du 2 février à Kabazogeye et à Gatovu non loin du poste de patrouilles, secteur MIKENO. Après descente sur terrain et identification des individus de chaque groupe, avons remarqué que pour la famille Kabirizi c’était l’adulte femelle SERUNDORI qui avait donné naissance et pour la famille BAGENI, la deuxième femelle immigrée dans cette famille en Mai 2019 en provenance de la famille WILUNGULA nommée FURAHINI. Signalons que l’autre femelle nommé SHUKURU a donné sa première naissance du sexe Féminin au sein du groupe Bagheni en Septembre 2019 et le bébé a été nommé ZAWADI, malheureusement morte neuf jours après.jpg)
Historique : Serundori est une jeune femelle née et grandie dans la famille Kabirizi, après la scission du la famille en 2013, sa mère et ses frères partirent avec Bagheni mais elle, préféra rester avec son père. Âgée de 13 ans, elle donne naissance à son deuxième enfant du sexe masculin 3 ans après la naissance précédente. Quant à Furahini, elle a quitté la famille Wilungula en Mai 2019. Elle est une femelle âgée d’au moins 25 ans et donne naissance à son premier bébé « Femelle » dans la famille Bagheni 9 mois après son arrivée dans le groupe. Il est probable que le bébé soit de SB Bageni étant donné que la durée de gestation est de 357 jours soit 8 mois et demi et que la femelle réalise 9 mois dans le groupe. A cet effet, les deux naissances permettent aux deux familles de passer de 23 à 24 individus pour Kabirizi et 36 à 37 pour Bagheni, et le nombre des gorilles habitués du s/secteur Mikeno dans l’ensemble de 149 à 151 individus sans prise en compte les deux familles en cours d’habitation et les 4 individus du sanctuaire Senkwekwe/Rumangabo.
