C’est au cours d’un point de presse animé par le secrétaire Général de la , monsieur KAMBASU KATSUVA MUKURA Josué tenu à Goma qu’il a dévoilé à la presse de Goma que sa structure a pour objectif de Protéger le Lac Edouard et le reste du parc national des Virunga contre toute initiative d’exploitation du pétrole et demande de la position du gouvernement de la République Démocratique du Congo face aux menaces que subissent le PNVi (Parc National des Virunga) et sa biodiversité.

En effet, le lac Edouard vers les côtes congolais fait partie intégrante du parc nation des Virunga, le plus ancien Parc National crée en Afrique en 1925 est un patrimoine national congolais et site du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO et Ramsar qui est régi par une loi nationale relative à la conservation de la nature.
Ce parc a une biodiversité exceptionnelle dont les Gorilles des montagnes font partie. En outre, ces menaces permanentes sur le lac Edouard et dans le parc national des Virunga, Il s’ajoute la convoitise de l’exploitation du pétrole par les sociétés pétrolières étrangères qui ont reçu l’ordonnance N°10/044 du 18 juin 2010 portant approbation du contrat de partage conclut le 5 décembre 2007 entre le RDC et l’Association Dominion petrolieum congo, elle a autorisés ainsi l’exploration et l’exploitation du pétrole dans les blocs V et VI du Rift Albertin touchant la majeure partie du parc national des Virunga et toutes les limites du lac Edouard qui forme le moyen de subsistance de la population riveraine en contribuant aussi à la lutte contre l’insécurité alimentaire a indiqué KAMBASU KATSUVA MUKURA Josué.

La FECOPEILLE demande à son Excellence Monsieur le Président de la République Démocratique du Congo, Chef de l’état d’annuler l’ordonnance loi N°10/044 du 18 juin 2010 portant approbation du contrat de partage conclut le 5 Décembre 2007 entre la RDC et l’Association Dominion petroleum Congo, SOCO exploration-production congo et la congolaise des hydrocarbures sur le bloc V du graben Albertine de la RDC, car cette ordonnance autorise l’exploration et l’exploitation du pétrole dans le bloc V et VI du Rift Albertin
